This Engineering Week, Daifuku Intralogistics America wants to celebrate and thank all the engineers who work hard every day to improve our products. You are the driving force behind the innovations of tomorrow. Without you, the material handling industry would not be as advanced and efficient as it is today. Thank you for your dedication and loyalty in keeping our company on top of the game.

Daifuku Intralogistics America is a leading provider of automated material handling systems and solutions for various industries, such as e-commerce, retail, food and beverage, and manufacturing. The company employs over 1,000 professionals across North America, who work together to deliver cutting-edge technology and exceptional service to their clients.

One of these professionals is Brett Criswell, a Design Engineer who has been with Daifuku for 12 years. Brett has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and has gained extensive experience in different areas of Daifuku, such as Client Care, Project Execution, Robotics, and his current passion, Design Engineering.

Brett Criswell

As a Design Engineer, Brett is responsible for creating and optimizing the layout and design of the automated systems that Daifuku installs for its clients. He uses data analytics and simulation tools to evaluate various scenarios and find the best solutions that meet the client’s requirements and expectations. He also collaborates with other engineers, project managers, and sales representatives to ensure the smooth execution and delivery of the projects.

Brett has worked on many successful projects for some of the most prestigious clients in the industry, such as True Religion, Nike, IKEA, Kraft, Burlington, and Frito Lay, among others. He takes pride in his work and enjoys the challenge of solving complex problems and creating innovative solutions. He says, “I love Design Engineering because it is like solving puzzles. Every project is different and has its own constraints and opportunities. I like to use data and logic to find the best possible design that maximizes efficiency, performance, and reliability. It is very rewarding to see the final result and how it improves the client’s operations and business.”

Brett is not only a puzzle lover, but also a sports fan. He lives in Dallas, Texas, with his wife Rebecca, his high school sweetheart, and their two children, Aria (4 years old) and Aiden (3 months old). He likes to play soccer occasionally and watch as much pro sports as possible, especially his favorite teams, the Dallas Mavericks.

Brett’s advice to young engineers who want to pursue a career in Design Engineering is to stay patient and keep learning. He says, “Design Engineering is a very dynamic and competitive field. You have to constantly update your skills and knowledge to keep up with the latest trends and technologies. You also have to be flexible and adaptable to the changing needs and demands of the clients and the market. Every new project is a new opportunity to learn something new and push the boundaries of what is possible. Don’t be afraid to try new things and experiment with different ideas. You never know what you might discover or create.”

One of the data highlights that Brett has developed for the design team is a batching model that he has created for his team that allows them to predict batching opportunities on large data sets with a few inputs in a matter of minutes. Batching is a process that groups items together based on certain criteria, such as size, weight, destination, or order, to optimize the throughput and utilization of the automated system. Brett’s model helps the design team to estimate the potential benefits of batching for different scenarios and configurations, and to compare them with the baseline performance. This helps the design team to make informed decisions and recommendations for the clients.

Brett is an example of the talented and dedicated professionals that make Daifuku Intralogistics America a leader in the industry. He is passionate about his work and strives to deliver the best solutions for his clients. He is always looking for new challenges and opportunities to grow and improve as a Design Engineer. He is a valuable asset to the company and a great colleague to work with.
