Everything You Need to Know About High Bay Warehouse Storage Solutions

Blog post header image.

If you're in the warehousing industry, you know that efficient storage solutions are crucial to maintaining a competitive edge. That's where a high bay warehouse automation system comes in.

Picture a storage system that not only maximizes space utilization but also enhances operational efficiency and productivity. What if this system could also handle extreme conditions effortlessly, ensuring seamless logistics? Then it sounds like you want to know more about high bay warehouse technology.

Benefits of High Bay Warehouse Automation

Store high-density inventory in taller buildings, reducing your footprint and maximizing space utilization. Take advantage of automation to generate operational efficiency and increase productivity.

Moreover, high bay warehouse automation can work in extreme conditions where it might be hard for your human operators to function. Need to run a tall warehouse in deepfreeze conditions? Your system will be able to handle that.

All of this streamlines logistics so you can dependably process requests at high speed 24/7 to delight customers, C-suite, stakeholders, and shareholders.

Many Options to Meet Diverse Warehousing Needs

One of the most extraordinary things about high bay warehouse automation is that we can design it to meet your warehouse's unique demands.

No two warehouses are alike. The Daifuku team knows how to build custom solutions around your warehousing needs, not ours. We can customize your system to address various applications and usages.

And to make your life a whole lot easier, your new high bay system will be able to work just as efficiently with conventional pallets as it does special load carriers. So, you don't have to invest in special pallets if you don't want to. Use what you have!

We can build your system single-deep or multi-layer deep with custom widths to help you optimize space usage.

Need automation for containers, barrels, cases, and cartons? High bay automation technology can handle that as well. Stairs, shuffle systems, and retrieval machines can all become part of your more efficient high bay warehouse system.

High Bay Automation Storage: How It Works

An automated high bay warehouse can tower up to 45 meters (145 feet) and sometimes higher. It's comprised of steel or wood (rare), depending on the warehousing needs.

Store and Manage 100s of Thousands of Pallets

A system can fit many hundreds or thousands of pallets in a relatively small space thanks to its vertical nature and use of automation that allow for multi-deep storage.

Automatically Retrieve and Place (Pull & Put)

Each aisle will have automated storage and retrieval machines (SRM), self-driving shuttles, and other materials handling equipment. These devices can find and pick up or locate and place medium to heavy loads effortlessly before transporting them to another storage unit for processing, or we can design it to pick a final order for shipment.

Max Weight

A system can handle up to 3000kg if the system is single deep and less than 21m tall, or3000lbs double deep up to 40m tall.

The system is capable of handling loads as diverse as dies and molds up to 3000kg single deep in a 21m tall building or conventional pallets multi deep up to 1350kg in a 40m tall building.

Working in Extreme Temperatures

We said it can handle extreme temperatures, and we meant it. It can work at -30 °C (-22°F) to a sweltering 45 °C (113 °F).

This range makes high bay materials handling and warehousing solutions a viable option for almost any warehouse industry.

Building Custom Storage Solutions

Your dedicated Daifuku team will design your system and develop the software your team needs to run it.

Our people are committed to helping you optimize dependability, meet all technical requirements, maximize space usage, and stop wasting time and money on inefficient, outdated warehouse technology with better warehouse automation.

Fully Automated Vs. Classic

There is classic (older technology that's only partially automated) and new intelligent, fully automated. A fully automated system can eliminate almost every monotonous and time-consuming task, managing the whole put-and-pick process from start to finish and helping humans in the warehouse work more efficiently.
