Sustainability: Daifuku Environmental Vision 2050

Blog post header image.

At Daifuku Intralogistics America, we're committed to creating automated solutions that inspire, enhance productivity and increase profits. But we're also committed to doing this in an environmentally responsible way.

As part of being good stewards of the environment, it's our goal to work towards and support the creation of a sustainable society through our business practices that align with this management philosophy. And just as we're always working to continuously improve our business, we're also always looking for ways to continuously improve our commitment to sustainable business practices.

We published our first Environmental Report in 2002 and continued it through 2007, when we published our first Social and Environmental Report. In 2010, we began publishing an annual CSR Report covering social, environmental and economic factors and other reporting on related data. In 2018, we added a page dedicated to four sustainability initiatives and progress to our website. This site is updated with information on our various initiatives related to society and the environment. It's a transparent snapshot of our range of initiatives and it also helps hold ourselves accountable for the progress we're committed to making.

Our Sustainable Action Plan was first published in 2021 and concluded publication in 2023. It worked to review material issues that were identified in our 2014 CSR Action Plan. In the future, the Sustainability Action Plan won't go away, but will be integrated into our four-year business plan through 2027 in an effort to make sustainability initiatives more ingrained in our business.

Sustainability is so much more than just a buzzword at Daifuku Intralogistics America. Read on for more information on how we're working to create a more sustainable future.

How We're Helping Create a More Sustainable Future

The future is what we make it. At Daifuku, we're doing our part to create an environment where business can thrive and nature can exist in harmony with each other to meet the needs of future generations.

Efforts to Slow Climate Change

Addressing climate change is one of the critical issue areas at Daifuku Intralogistics. We're deeply focused on reducing carbon emissions through our products and services, as well as the entire supply chain. We're also actively working to introduce renewable energy solutions into our business.

In addition to our company initiatives, we also support local, national and global initiatives to slow the rate of climate change. This includes the Paris Agreement, the Act of Promotion of Global Warming Countermeasures, the Act on Rationalizing Energy Use and more. Learn more on our Climate Change page.

Local Actions and collaboration with customers and vendor goals

In addition to focusing on supporting our corporate goals, Daifuku Intralogistics America is also working to identify local initiatives that support our goals and working hard to support both customer initiatives and tie-in vendor activities.  We recognize and are working to develop the added benefits that a complete Supply Chain scope can bring to realizing the sustainable society we aim to achieve.

Examples of some local initiatives include:

• Reducing single use packaging and replacing with materials that can meet US recycling requirements.

• Improving our energy efficiency within our manufacturing equipment and facilities

• Leveraging the use of renewable energy where possible

Learn more about our 2030 sustainability goals, see the "Metrics and Targets" section of our Climate Change page on our website.

Ensuring a Healthy Global Environment

In addition to our 2030 goals, we've also established longer-term 2050 goals as part of our environmental vision. Among the critical issue areas are:

• Addressing global climate change and cutting net carbon emissions to zero throughout our entire supply chain.

• Promoting resource recycling to achieve a recycling-based society.

• Coexisting with nature to have zero negative impact on natural capital.
